SuMO Program at KLU: Fit for Sustainability
How does sustainable management work? What do managers who want to make their companies more sustainable need to prepare for? And how can this knowledge be effectively put into practice? The Sustainable Management and Operations Program (SuMO) at KLU Executive Education provides answers. The first cohort of the one-year, part-time program started at KLU in March 2023.
After the official Welcome Day on March 13, the participants started their first week of classes directly on site at the KLU campus. From large companies like DB Schenker and KK to freelancers from the cultural sector and the tobacco industry, the group is a colorful mix. Participants report on their first impressions:

"I was looking for a program that was not full time and SuMO's syllabus sounded 100 percent suitable. So far I like it very much, our group dynamic is so inspiring! The small group size and the way of teaching with real life examples correlate with my own learning style. I'm already looking forward to the sustainability project that we will implement in small teams during the program. This way we can directly apply what we have learned."

"Together with my colleagues, I am driving forward the decarbonization of global shipping for DB Schenker. I have learned a lot on the job, and I wouldn't want to miss the input from outside our company. The lectures of the SuMO program are a good enrichment for me and my company. I am very happy about the opportunity to participate in this program. Already today, after the first week of lectures, I can apply some learnings directly in my daily job routine. “I am an auditor and I know that sustainability reporting will have a huge role in auditors and accountants’ profession in the future. I was looking for a training to gain a deeper understanding of all issues that should be reported under sustainability. I like the open discussion during the lessons and that we still have the chance to say what exactly we would like to learn – I’m happy that there is the chance to tailor the program to my needs."
KLU Executive Education's part-time Sustainable Management and Operations Program (SuMO) provides professionals with the conceptual foundations of sustainable management. Scientific expertise and a holistic perspective on sustainability are combined, and the strong practical orientation enables knowledge to be put into practice quickly and efficiently. The program combines on-site classroom sessions with online learning modules.
