Dear Community,

The significance of resilient supply chains gains particular clarity during humanitarian and medical crises. Simultaneously, the need for sustainable design has moved into focus, and at KLU research we are increasingly addressing it.

As the new Dean of Research at KLU, I am passionate about bridging theoretical insights and practical applications. A key focus of my work is the management of medical supply shortages – a critical issue both in humanitarian contexts and industries navigating supply chain challenges. I have explored how best practices in humanitarian logistics, such as rapid response systems and resource optimization, can offer valuable frameworks for commercial supply chains.

Logistics fascinates me as a field that combines complexity and creativity, offering endless opportunities to innovate and improve – a perspective that informs my vision for impactful, sustainable research at KLU. I elaborate further on this in my welcome interview.

In this issue, we provide insights into exciting crisis management projects, including contributions from my colleague and predecessor as Dean of Research, Prof. Maria Besiou. Learn more about CHORD, our joint research center in cooperation with HELP Logistics. Additionally, my colleague Prof. Franziska Lauenstein has explored whether performance data can serve as motivating feedback. Séan Rafter, Managing Director of HELP Logistics, talks about logistics’ commitment to a better world in our KLU Talks Business interview.

I look forward to your questions and feedback.

Kind regards,

Prof. Marianne Jahre
Dean of Research
